Twisting by the pool

Our pool has not been looked after for years. A bit run-down with a crack here and there and other defects. Overdue maintenance due to lack of time and energy.

Just like with our physical constitution; regular exercise has been lacking in the last year due to lack of time and energy.

A good time to tackle both issues combined, a win win situation.

Sitting in front of the PC for hours a day will only lead to RSI*. (*mouse arm, a condition that was common in the 90s but now seems to have died out). This injury, which was built up over a long period of time, can be remedied by using a sander because the constant vibrations penetrate deep into the muscle. It also wonderfully vibrates my stress neck loose.

The water basin above our house (alberca in Spanish), after a thorough sanding, was given a nice smurfy blue coating and may henceforth call itself a swimming pool.

Its bigger brother in the lower part of the garden was in worse shape. Fortunately I am structural engineer enough to know that the crack problem had a deep-seated cause. So a big hole was dug on both sides of the pool (2x 4m3) and a reinforced supporting beam was put on by hand. Those cracks now do nothing! My back and biceps do even more. But as our neighbor José said, "Trabajar con los manos sin con la cabeza es un vida mejor".

The cracks on the inside were chopped out, then kierfuller was smurfed in, some sanding and then a nice smurf blue coating was applied. By now I can really call myself an "expert de piscina"...

Just a little terrace smurfing of original terracotta tiles, installing the new saltwater system with sparkler José Carlos and our guests can swim in the summer!

The 'upper pool' is now filled with our own spring water. You can't really swim in it but you can cool off. Madre mia it is still cold! Quickly warm up in the sun on the sun beds with an amazing view and a drink within reach.

After work done... Twisting by the pool....
